Publish an Instagram Reel from Notion

Publishing an Instagram reel directly from Notion is very simple with Scheduled. This guide shows you how to create and schedule your reels without leaving your Notion workspace.

Prerequisite: Check your Instagram connection

Before you start, make sure your Instagram account is properly connected to Scheduled.

If you can't find your Instagram connection, check these two points:

  1. Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account

Personal accounts are not compatible with the Instagram API. You need to convert your account to a Business or Creator account. Check this article for more details: Switch from a Creator account to a Business account on Instagram

  1. Your Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page

This link is required to allow publishing via the Instagram API. Check this article for more details: Confirm that your Instagram (business or creator) account is correctly linked to a Facebook Page

Once your connection is added in Scheduled, the connection alias should appear automatically in your Notion. If you don't see it in the options of your "Connection" property, click the button next to the alias to "Add in Notion".

How to add connection alias to Notion

Step 1: Prepare the key elements in Notion

To publish a post on Instagram, you must fill in at least these 3 items in your Notion card:

  1. Publish date: Set when you want your reel to be published
  2. Status: Change the status to show that your post is ready to be published
  3. Connection: Select the alias of your Instagram connection in the dedicated property

Step 2: Write your reel caption

Go to the body of your Notion card to write the text that will go with your reel.

You can enrich your text with:

  • Hashtags: Add them with the "#" symbol (example: #reels #marketing)
  • Mentions: Tag other Instagram accounts using "@" followed by their handle (example: @scheduled.so)

Step 3: Add your video

To publish a reel, you need to add a video in the body of your Notion card. You can place it before or after your text.

How to add your video

  • Drag and drop: Simply drag your video into your Notion card
  • With the shortcut: Use the /video command to insert your video
📌 Make sure your video is fully uploaded in Notion before scheduling its publication.

Reel format and specifications

For your reel to be published correctly on Instagram, follow these specs:

📌 Recommended format: Vertical (9:16)

📌 Duration: Up to 90 seconds

📌 Supported formats: MP4, MOV

Instagram favors vertical videos for reels. If your video is square or horizontal, it will still be published but the viewing experience will be less ideal.

Step 4: Let Scheduled publish your reel

Once you have:

  • Filled in the publish date
  • Selected your Instagram connection
  • Changed the status to show that the post is ready
  • Added your video and caption

Scheduled will automatically fetch your content every 2 hours and publish your reel at the scheduled time.

Instant publishing: You can also use the "Schedule Now" button to trigger the publication manually without waiting for the automatic sync.
